Beware when buying or selling a used car

Most states require any vehicle that has been totaled and rebuilt to be tagged as either "Salvaged" or "Rebuilt". This is a way to be aware when dealing with water damage to a car. That would be painful if it was not disclosed and you found out about it after.  This is just outrageous and now consider this about water car damage being hidden when a car is sold. You should insure yourself against that: I think some car marketers should read this. That’s putting it mildly. I would imagine that I may not be too popular for saying this.

Sometimes it is obvious like discolorations from the nails inside the walls rusting from water contact. Have the water damaged vehicle inspected to make sure that it will perform properly. They may need to replace some of the components. In every point I bring up, I’m giving you the truth about water damage to a car. You’re probably just curious, that’s all. If you have any doubts about its safety, have it towed.

What to look for

I’m turned on to car water damage now and I know what’s right when it comes to protecting consumers. Check all lights for trapped moisture  If you own a vehicle that has been damaged by water, you most likely are looking to get rid of it. If you cannot sell your water damaged car, you can always donate it to a charity and get a nice tax write off for the charitable donation. 

I wanted to take a minute to mention the differences between fresh car water damage versus salt water damage. Although the car does not remain in the water as long, and may not have been as deeply submerged in the water, the damage could still be serious. Dry out the ignition system then it’s time to commit to your car’s interior.  You can find periodic discounts on automobile restoration if you look. However I would simply do it myself.

If your transmission fluid or brake fluid appears more brown than red you may have water in those systems, if the oil appears either gray or milky you definitely have an issue with water damage. This can affect, not only the cosmetics of your vehicle, but the electronic system, as well. There are several ways suggested by car experts to indicate the presence of this in the car you are looking at.

If the vehicle’s interior smells like a cosmetic counter at the department store be aware that the air fresheners may be masking a moldy smell. It is a commonly used method to generate more sales. In any event you should avoid any vehicle that has milky or beige appearing fluids. The main thing that a salt water flooded car does is rust out the car immediately. If it is soaked, you may find you need to redo the interior due to mold. Drying your car completely can minimize the need for water removal. Water spots on the paint are sometimes hard to see especially when really clean water has been used to rinse the car then wiped off with clean rag or cloth. Disinfect everything that has been soaked under a flood waterline.

Before selling your vehicle, keep in mind that honesty is the best policy. Boils below the windows are another signal of water damage to car and buyers will notice that.  If you have been involved in a flood, first check all of your fluids. If you observe fluids appear diluted, there is a good chance water is in the pans. Car interior water damage is quite undesirable to buyers.  Important systems does not react well to being submerged in water either.  

A better way is to avoid that water damage to begin with.

Well, that’s my viewpoint. Your first and foremost step should be to look at the title of the vehicle. In spite of all my success, I am not the most knowledgeable person in the world. The car insurances out there today can be tricky if you don’t know how to deal with them, meaning if you don’t ask what coverage they can provide for you that you need.
